Piazza Farms and Greenhouses currently enlists the use of 17
greenhouses for our growing needs. Two of our 17 greenhouses remain of the
original glass variety having been moved piece by piece from Bethlehem, Pa and
East Orange, NJ in the early 1960's. These two houses are home to geraniums,
various hanging baskets, miscellaneous bedding plants such as vinca vine and
spikes, and our famous Easter Mums. Three Quonset greenhouses purchased in 1968
remain onsite today and house many bedding plants for retail such as
geraniums, alyssum, dusty miller, and
many others as well as a variety of hanging baskets including fuchsia,
geranium, and petunia. A fourth plastic greenhouse constructed in 1978 is home
to many petunias of all varieties including fantasy and wave as well as one of
our specialties,Sunlover Petunia baskets of all shades and sizes. Our gutter
connected house constructed in 1980 is our mainstay for bedding plants. Here we
grow our bulk of impatiens of all colors, healthy begonias, ageratum, sage,
more geraniums (both in pots and in flats), gypsophilia (baby's breath),
gazanias, celosia, coleus, dahlias and many many hanging baskets such as
fuchsia of all varieties, verbena, portulaca, geranium (both vine and upright),
and thunbergia just to name a few. We are
known far and wide for our super large and elegant Fuchsia baskets as well as
for our hanging Vine Geraniums in many different hues. Our three "back" houses
are home to our vegetable plants. We grow most any vegetable plant imaginable
including, but not limited to, tomatoes of all varieties (beefsteak, cherry,
grape,plum,etc), peppers of all varieties (sweet bell, colored, hot, Italian
sweet, etc), eggplant, zucchini, cantaloupe, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower,
cabbage and much more. One of these "back" houses is specifically dedicated to
the production of disease free vegetable plants for Piazza Farms and the
surrounding farms in the state of New Jersey. In 2000, Piazza Farms replaced a
third original glass greenhouse which stood for over 30 years with a new state
of the art 4,000 square feet, double-poly structure. Designed specifically for
seed germination and plant propagation, this new house features computerized
climate and temperature control, a highly sophisticated heating system that
supplies heat directly to the growing benches to maximize the use of available
space. This new high-tech growing area also features an automatic misting and
watering system throughout. All of our annual seeding and geranium cuttings
will be produced in this new facility each growing season. Today Piazza Farms
includes 50,000 sq.ft. of heated covered growing area, and 15,000 sq. ft. of
outdoor growing area for Fall mums and perennials.
SPECIAL
PROMOTION In addition to our usual popular
flowers, this year in late May, we will be offering twenty different varieties
of our "basket only" plants in four inch pots. These special flowers can be
used as ground cover, in lawnscapes, or in combination planters. Also, look for
a number of brand new colors in petunias and million bells, some of our best
sellers!
EASY MONEY As always, our Spring Flower Fundraiser was a resounding
success last season. We are thrilled to know that we were instrumental in
helping to raise money for a great cause - OUR CHILDREN! What a great way to
make an easy profit for those searching for new and exciting ways to raise
money. It is a wonderful way for schools, scout troops, clubs and any other
type of group seeking to raise funds. A proud Grandmother told us last year
that her Grandson was on a class trip that day thanks to Piazza Farms! We were
so happy to know that we helped his class reach their goal. Our Spring
